The Official Site of Mo Hensler

Blog

I am writing from my kitchen table, where the thrift store find of the year, a 70's panasonic turntable complete with speakers and a working needle, spins effortlessly in the corner, producing the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel's "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme." Tonight is a good night. This time to stop, sit, listen and enjoy has been a long time coming. My dad and I just emerged from the studio after about a month of work on three worship songs that are now in the capable hands of our mixer in Nashville. The project was motivated by a phone call my dad got a few months ago letting him know that one of our worship songs was selected to be featured in the November/December issue of Worship Leader magazine's SongDISCovery. Up till now, we have only had three songs available that were recorded in Nashville last February. They are good, solid songs and were recorded with an excellent producer in an awesome home studio with great studio musicians, but somehow lacked the real heart of what lies in Hensler blood; namely, a deep desire for authenticity. So for the next three songs, we decided to stay local and work with Darren Clarke at a studio on the central coast of California, attempting to capture a raw, organic sound with the right group of musicians and less pressure. The result is a bluegrass-laced EP laden with fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, a little accordion, and some killer harmonies. But most of all, I think it is an honest attempt on the part of my dad and I to bring fresh, authentic worship music to God's people. It is the cry of our hearts, and we hope that it resonates in yours. The music will be available on noteroper.com and itunes in a few weeks. For now, the Nashville EP is available through the website above, amazon, and itunes.

Shows

I will most likely be playing at either the Clubhouse and/or Sally Loo's Cafe again in the near future. Right now, I am collaborating with a few other central coast musicians and hope to come up with some fresh songs and a new take on some old ones. At the moment, I am a bit sick of myself and what I have to offer with my lonely guitar and voice. Check back for dates.
